Current state of laboratory test utilization practices in the clinical laboratory

Do you ever wonder how prevalent laboratory utilization programs are today, which interventions are being used, and who participates in successful laboratory utilization groups? A paper was just published in Academic Pathology titled “Current state of laboratory test utilization practices in the clinical laboratory”. The paper discusses the findings of a laboratory stewardship survey that was performed in 2019-2020. Grace Kroner is the lead author with contributions from Sandy Richman, Jane Dickerson, Brian Jackson and me. It doesn’t matter if you already have a laboratory stewardship program or if you are just getting started with a new initiative, this paper and the results of the laboratory survey provide valuable insight. It is a must read for those in the field of laboratory stewardship or those interested in getting started in this area.
